Once among the poorest provinces in the Mekong Delta, after 30 years of re-establishment, Soc Trang has strongly risen to become a well-grown province in the region. As one of key agricultural producers in the Mekong Delta and in Vietnam, in recent years, Soc Trang has actively restructured agriculture towards environmentally friendly production and increased added value for sustainable development. Thereby, its supporting role for social and economic development is reaffirmed.
The fourth outbreak of the COVID-19 epidemic hurt economic activity, including investment, production and business, in Soc Trang province like other provinces in the region in 2021.

On February 15, 2022, Phase 1 of Wind Farm 7 - the first wind power project in Soc Trang province - was inaugurated and put into commercial operation. Overcoming many difficulties, the project was completed on schedule, a meaningful and practical work for the 30th anniversary of Soc Trang province reestablishment (4/1992 - 4/2022).
Soc Trang City has made dramatic progress in 30 years since provincial reestablishment. This is an important driving force and foundation for the city to extend its development in the new period to match its position, potential and strengths.
