SCG Launches Sharing Dream 2024 Scholarship: 17 Years of Green Empowerment

SCG, in collaboration with the Central Youth Union and HCMC Student Assistant Center (SAC), recently announced the launch of SCG Sharing the Dream 2024, which will award 100 undergraduate scholarships with a total value of 1.5 billion VND, to deserving students across Vietnam.

Focusing on future-oriented fields, the scholarships will primarily support students pursuing degrees in science, technology, engineering, environment, design, economics such as accounting, business administration, marketing. Marking its 17th consecutive year, this scholarship program reaffirms SCG's unwavering commitment to its ESG 4 Plus strategy - core focuses that have guided the company for many years. The SCG Sharing the Dream scholarship aligns seamlessly with this ESG-centric vision, aiming to nurture Vietnam's green generation and build a sustainable future by instilling these crucial values in the leaders of tomorrow.

These days have seen a significant shift in the mindset of the youth. Beyond their resilience in overcoming challenges, young people are demonstrating a heightened awareness of their social responsibility, actively engaging in environmental and social projects to give back to their communities.

It now encompasses a comprehensive suite of activities aimed at equipping students with critical ESG knowledge and skills. This holistic approach is designed to empower students with a strong ESG mindset, enabling them to realize their potential. By investing in their education and promoting a commitment to sustainable practices, SCG is cultivating a new generation of leaders prepared to advance Vietnam’s sustainable development and shape a responsible future.

The Central Youth Union, a key partner in this initiative, commends SCG for its pioneering approach to empowering future generations. Ms. Nguyen Pham Duy Trang, Secretary of the Central Youth Union, Chairman of the Central Council of Young Pioneers, stated, “Central Youth Union and Central Council of Young Pioneers deeply appreciates SCG's innovative scholarship program, which uniquely combines financial support with sustainable development education. We believe that this comprehensive scholarship will serve as a powerful springboard for students from challenging backgrounds, inspiring Vietnam's young generation—the future leaders of the nation—to work hard in their studies, and develop strong moral character. These students will pioneer the building and innovation of the country, contributing to a prosperous, happy, and thriving Vietnam, in fulfilment of the great aspirations of President Ho Chi Minh and the enduring hopes of the Vietnamese people.” Moreover, the scholarship nurtures them to become responsible and environmentally conscious citizens, cultivating a generation of “green leaders” with the potential to drive a sustainable future in Vietnam.

In addition to financial assistance, the scholarship program features various extracurricular activities focused on the ESG concept. One of the main components is the ESG Ambassador competition, which challenges students to create inventive ESG initiatives that benefit their local communities in Vietnam. This competition not only encourages creativity and problem-solving skills but also prompts students to apply their ESG knowledge to real-world issues. The winning team will have the honor of representing Vietnam at the ASEAN regional competition, offering them a valuable international exposure opportunity.

Besides, the program includes interactive workshops led by industry experts, factory tours showcasing sustainable practices in action, and networking events with ESG professionals. These activities are carefully designed to provide students with hands-on experiences and opportunities to shape and develop a sustainable mindset.

Nguyen Duy Khang, a final year student majoring in Mechatronic Engineering, College of Engineering, Can Tho University, who is an SCG Sharing the Dream 2023 scholarship recipient and one of top 4 winners in the ESG Ambassador with the project of developing an equipment to facilitate the blind people. “SCG played a crucial role in inspiring ESG principles, which directly influenced my project. The training sessions provided a foundation in ESG concepts, social responsibility and their practical applications. Factory tours demonstrated real-world implementation of sustainable practices and the environmentally conscious approach to product development. ESG camps offered an immersive environment for collaboration, idea refinement and how to carry out a community project by means of approaching experts in this field. Their support went beyond education – it was truly inspirational, showing how businesses can drive positive social change. I'm honored and excited to be selected as an ESG ambassador. ​​I strongly believe that the power of projects turning towards sustainability and community services will create positive changes. I'm eager to contribute to the advancement of ESG principles and learn about them from other experts in Thailand.”, he shared.
