Thanh Hoa Focuses on Intensive Tourism Development

Thanh Hoa is considered a “miniature Vietnam” featuring all kinds of terrains, ecosystems and regions: Plain, mountain, midland and coast. The province has a strategic position, with trans-Vietnam trunk roads and railways in addition to traffic routes to the neighboring country of Laos. Thanh Hoa also has abundant human resources.

Party committees and authorities have focused local resources to effectively tap potential and advantages of natural, economic and social conditions and tourism resources to make tourism a key economic sector as per Resolution 08-NQ/TW of the Politburo dated January 16, 2017 and the Resolution of the 18th Provincial Party Congress to speed up economic restructuring, preserving and promoting cultural values, improving the spiritual and material life of the people. The tourism sector’s achievements in 2018 played an important role.

Thanh Hoa province’s tourism industry has concentrated on developing true tourism, from raising social awareness, preparing good conditions for infrastructure and facilities to improve tourist-serving capacity, extend tourist stays and spending, and diversifying and improving tourist product quality to promote tourism in domestic and international target markets. Hence, Thanh Hoa province achieved impressive tourism results in 2018.



The tourism infrastructure system continued to be invested and completed. In 2018, the province disbursed VND626.7 billion out of over VND3,200 billion approved for 17 transport infrastructure projects that connected tourist destinations. Typical projects included a coastal road passing Thanh Hoa province, a traffic project from Gong Crossroad to Hai Tien Beach (Hoang Hoa district), and a road project from National Highway 1A to Hai Hoa Beach (Tinh Gia district). Many projects aimed to improve service quality at tourist attractions, such as standard toilets, a parking lot for sightseeing the World Heritage Site of Ho Dynasty Castle, and landscape uplifting for Cam Luong Stream (Cam Thuy district).



Thanh Hoa province attracted many tourism investment projects. In 2018, the provincial government licensed 13 tourism development projects, bringing total tourism projects to 70 with a combined registered investment capital of VND63,000 billion (US$2.8 billion), including VND3,000 billion disbursed in 2018. Notable projects included Dong A maritime eco-urban area, Tien Thanh maritime eco-tourism area, FLC Resort and Golf Course Complex (second phase) of FLC Group, Ben En resort and recreational complex (VND9,990 billion), and Sam Son ecological and recreational complex. The diverse tourist accommodation system, including hotels, motels, villas, homestays and condotels, has changed the face of accommodation facilities and increasingly responded to various needs of domestic and international tourists.

Thanh Hoa province has concentrated on speeding up the implementation of Thanh Hoa tourism product development project to 2025, with a vision to 2030. The province will develop locally typical tourism products and uphold the conservation of natural landscapes.

Hoai Nam
