Supporting Businesses to Surmount Difficulties

Well understanding the hardships local enterprises face, Quang Tri Department of Industry and Trade has implemented many solutions to support enterprises to overcome difficulties to quickly stabilize and develop production and business activities.

Statistics of Quang Tri Department of Industry and Trade showed that the industrial production index in March 2020 increased by 10.69% over the previous month and by 0.14% over the same period last year. Accumulated in the first three months of 2020, the index of industrial production is estimated to increase by 7.98% over the same period last year, of which: mining industry increased by 17.37%; processing and manufacturing industry by 6.77%; producing and distributing electricity, gas, hot water and steam by 10.34%; and water supply industry, waste management and treatment activities by 5.87%. In particular, some key industrial products of Quang Tri enjoyed good growth, such as: ilmenite ore increased by 35.15%; zircon ore by 22.53%; electricity production by 15.26%; and wood chips by 13.87%.

Trade activities in the first three months also obtained stable growth; goods were plentiful and diverse, meeting well the production and consumption demands. Specifically, the total retail sales of goods and services was estimated at VND7,684.51 billion, up 3.88% over the same period last year, reaching 22.9% of the plan.

Besides the positive results, the Quang Tri Industry and Trade sector still faces many difficulties, caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. In which, some key products saw decreasing growth: rosin and resin acid down by 37.83%; canned beer by 33.72%; sawn timber by 9.98%; and plywood by 9.57%. Business activities and services are also hit hard, especially business activities in accommodation and tourism.

In 2020, Quang Tri Industry and Trade sector is set to increase the industrial production index by over 14%; bring total retail sales of consumer goods and services to VND33,500 billion, up over 11.4% compared to 2019, gradually turning the province into an energy center of the Central region.

In order to overcome difficulties, the Industry and Trade sector has focused on implementing a number of practical key tasks in order to remove difficulties and support enterprises in production and business activities, such as: Focusing on restructuring industry and trade sector to serve industrialization, modernization and sustainable development. The sector has also encouraged and supported businesses to develop industries of advantages, such as: wood processing industry, processing industry of agriculture, forestry, fishery, and renewable energy (wind power, electricity solar power, small hydroelectricity). The sector has also implemented research and effectively carried out trade promotion activities, enhanced commodity export and e-commerce development.
The sector has also paid special attention to supporting businesses to improve quality, expand production and construction scale, especially to advertise their brands, consolidate their existing export markets, seek new markets and seek partners to invest in production, business and consumption of goods. The sector has promoted administrative reform, creating a favorable business environment. The sector has also continued to review, evaluate and propose solutions to simplify and shorten the time for handling administrative procedures related to investment, business and access to electricity, and worked together with enterprises to make more contributions to the socio-economic development of the province.
