As part of a series of programs to support companies to restore tourism business, in April 2022, the Danang Department of Tourism cooperated with the Vietnam Hotel Personnel Association, the Da Nang Tourism Association, the Da Nang VTOS Training Club to open a workshop themed “Danang tourism - Positioned for change in the new normal”.

The workshop aimed to listen to and grasp difficulties in resuming operations and adaptation to changes of tourism service providers and hotels in Da Nang City, to find direction and suggest ideas for businesses to resume effective operations and employment in the new conditions.

The Da Nang Department of Tourism has organized a series of training programs to support tourism companies in restoring their business operations under new normal conditions since the start of April 2022. Particularly, the department has focused on guiding them to ensure required conditions for resumption and consolidate tourism workers by raising their awareness, attitude, professional service thinking and problem solving skills to situations arising out of housekeeping, restaurant and reception among other activities.

Starting to welcome Korean tourists

On April 29, the Da Nang Tourism Department and Vietjet Air Company welcomed visitors on Flight VJ879 from Incheon to Da Nang at Da Nang International Airport. Within the framework of this program, tourism authorities of Da Nang City and Quang Nam province cooperated with Vietjet Air to conduct a destination survey program for more than 15 prestigious Korean travel agencies. This is one activity to attract Korean tourists to the central tourist market.

From April 28, Vietjet Air launched a plan to operate six flights per week between Da Nang and Incheon. Flight VJ878 departs from Da Nang at 23:45 on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and lands in Incheon at 06:00 the next morning. Flight VJ879, from Incheon to Da Nang, departs at 07:00 and lands at 09:40 on Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

“South Korea has been a leading tourism market for Da Nang for years before the COVID-19 outbreak, so restoring this market is of great interest to the city,” said Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh, Deputy Director of Da Nang Tourism Department.

Previously, the Da Nang City People's Committee issued Plan 1408/PA-UBND on March 18, 2022 to resume tourism activity in the new normal with the message of “Da Nang is ready to open and welcome tourists”. The plan focused on five key tasks, including preparing human resources and assuring service quality; preparing new products; ensuring security and safety for tourists; and making communication and marketing plans.

In the coming time, Da Nang City will focus on removing difficulties and obstacles for key tourism projects and driving forces; study and apply pilot mechanisms to utilize and develop new products and services, prioritize public investment resources, and invest in tourism infrastructure in the short and long term.

For tourism firms, in addition to ensuring epidemic prevention and control, strictly implementing reception processes and handling medical incidents, it is necessary to strengthen information technology application and digital transformation, adopt contactless service models such as automatic online check-in counters, self check-out and key return systems, online payments and chatbots, and update market trends, tourist tastes and actual situations for improvement, research and creation of suitable new products and services. At the same time, it is important to actively monitor market development to recruit workers to ensure quantity and quality.
