Never trading the environment for economy or for sustainable development, Kien Giang province always focuses on full environmental monitoring of air, water and soil; modernizes and improves monitoring capacity; and actively helps environmental protection in the province.

The Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring is a non-business unit under the Department of Natural Resources and Environment of Kien Giang province, responsible for environmental monitoring and supervision in the province and making environmental states every year and every five years according to regulations of the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. At the same time, the agency coordinates in unexpected environmental monitoring and requested specialized inspections.

The agency provides environmental impact assessment (EAI) reporting services, environmental permits, and annual environmental monitoring for businesses; and help them comply with the Law on Environmental Protection.

The center is designated by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to conduct monitoring and testing, coded VIMCERTS 181 and accredited Vilas 384 according to ISO/IEC 17025:2017, to ensure quality of monitoring results.

During its operation, with the support, direction and facilitation of the Department of Natural Resources and Environment and the effort of all the staff, the center always successfully completed its assigned tasks, thus effectively helping the state administration of environmental protection and being a reliable address for individuals, organizations and businesses to request environmental procedures in the province.

Enhancing professional and modern innovations

The center is active and flexible in its operation, consolidates organizational structure, and provides training for its employees to raise their professional and specialized qualifications.

Besides, the unit has increased investment in purchasing modern equipment for monitoring and analyzing soil, water and air environment indicators.

Particularly, as monitoring and assessing environmental standards is considered a “sensitive” work, the center always places publicity and transparency on top. All monitoring and assessment processes are carried out in line with provided procedures and regulations. This spirit is thoroughly conveyed to all employees to provide multidimensional monitoring for the masses and jointly supervise environmental management with authorities.

Besides, to build long-term relationships with customers, understand and grasp their needs, the Center for Natural Resources and Environment Monitoring also expands services, standardizes business processes; and supports businesses to abide by new policies and regulations; and changes to adapt to new procedures specified by the Law on Environmental Protection. That has brought satisfaction to businesses and improved the sector’s indicators in the Provincial Competitiveness Index (PCI).

By 2025, the center will continue improve environmental monitoring capacity to meet sustainable socioeconomic development requirements, keep pace with modernization trends, and move to integrate with smart environmental management.

In the coming time, the center will invest, equip and supplement monitoring equipment according to Vietnamese standards; train its employees to improve their professional qualifications; and foster information technology application in environmental monitoring.

Furthermore, it will advise the Department of Natural Resources and Environment to review and adjust the provincial environmental monitoring network in accordance with current regulations and actual local situations; and seek more funds for environmental monitoring to ensure frequency of mandatory monitoring and its parameters.
