On September 4, 2024, leading global hospitality company Hilton (NYSE: HLT) announced the opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane, marking Hilton’s foray into Laos and the hospitality group’s 10th market in South East Asia.
DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane is located in the heart of Laos’ capital city with access to major transport hubs and iconic local attractions, making it a prime choice for business and leisure travelers. The opening reflects Hilton’s continued expansion in South East Asia, spotlighting the growth opportunities in the region where Hilton is set to nearly double its portfolio in the coming years.
DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane marks Hilton’s landmark entry into Laos, offering its signature hospitality to travelers from Vietnam, one of the country’s top markets for inbound tourists
Laos welcomed more than 3.4 million international visitors in 2023, a surge of 164% from the previous year, and more than one million visitors in the first quarter of this year alone. Vietnam stands at the second top source market, after Thailand, accounting for over a quarter of international arrivals. Laos is rapidly emerging as one of the most inviting destinations for Vietnamese travelers seeking a weekend getaway. Located just under two hours from Ho Chi Minh by air, the vibrant capital of Vientiane offers a unique mix of cultural attractions, outdoor experiences, and timeless charm, all set against a laid-back lifestyle.
Bilateral efforts are underway to boost tourism between Laos and Vietnam, which include initiatives such as the Vietnam-Laos Culture, Arts and Tourism Cooperation Plan. Both countries have launched various tourism and cultural promotion activities to showcase the cultural richness of their markets, with the aim of jointly boosting tourism development and promoting their destinations.
“Laos boasts a rich cultural heritage and stunning natural landscapes. With the opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane, we are honored to bring Hilton’s signature hospitality to the heart of this up-and-coming destination,” said Alan Watts, president, Asia Pacific, Hilton. “With a growing desire among Vietnamese travelers to explore destinations in Asia and experience local culture, this latest addition to our portfolio underscores Hilton’s commitment to being where our guests want to be, and to capturing the growing travel demand in this dynamic region."
The opening of DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane is part of the upscale full-service brand’s growing portfolio in Asia Pacific. Known for its contemporary accommodations, unpretentious hospitality, thoughtful amenities, and signature chocolate chip cookie presented to each guest at check-in, the award-winning brand recently marked another significant milestone as it surpassed 100 properties in Asia Pacific. With nearly 80 DoubleTree by Hilton properties in the pipeline in Asia Pacific, all offering a double dose of comfort and care, the brand will contribute to Hilton’s target to surpass 1,000 trading hotels in the region by 2025.
“Since opening our first hotel in Asia Pacific in 2008, DoubleTree by Hilton has grown to more than 100 hotels across the region today – testament to the brand’s loyal and growing customer base. Guests in Vientiane can expect a warm welcome which starts with a signature chocolate chip cookie on arrival, and continues with inviting guest spaces and thoughtful service throughout their stay”, said Alexandra Jaritz, senior vice president, Brand Management, Asia Pacific, Hilton. “Laos is rich with history and heritage, and DoubleTree by Hilton Vientiane’s prime location makes it an ideal base for travelers from Vietnam and the region to explore the city and enjoy a vibrant getaway where culture and nature meet.”
