Ha Giang province determined that boosting investment in transport infrastructure construction and development is vital to successfully realize socioeconomic development goals and ensure security and defense.
In recent years, national highways and provincial roads have been built, restored and upgraded as planned. Urban roads, district roads, commune roads and rural roads have been invested. Ha Giang opened new roads for villages and hamlets that do not have automobile-supported roads to their administrative centers.
In 2015-2020, Ha Giang mobilized over VND8,600 billion to build, restore, upgrade and repair over 650 km of national and provincial roads, 320 km of district roads, 86 km of urban roads and 8.5 km of roads in industrial parks and tourist areas, build 2,662 bridges and culverts. Many roads and bridges have been constructed, renovated and upgraded with advanced technical standards, good quality and beautiful aesthetics. The province has also restored, upgraded and built 1,790 km of rural roads. So far, 100% of communes, wards and towns and 86.02% of villages have automobile-supporting roads to their administrative centers.
However, the province’s transport system is still facing numerous difficulties. National highways and provincial roads have not been completely built as planned. The province has no expressways, railways and airways linked with the province and economic centers of the region. The road system from district centers to communal centers from communal centers to village centers is still narrow. Drainage systems are not complete and the rate of asphalt or concrete roads is still low. Bus stations, river ports, waterways and river-crossing passenger terminals have not been built or restored as planned. Traffic order and safety is still complicated.
The Resolution of the 17th Provincial Party Congress determined that boosting investment in transport system construction and development is vital to successfully realize objectives, including synchronous and modern transport infrastructure network, reducing distance and travel time to Hanoi and key northern economic centers, mobilizing investment resources for construction, restoration and upgrading of existing traffic system as planned. The province has effectively managed, maintained and promoted the transport system and boosted socioeconomic development.
Specifically, the province coordinated and planned road networks, inland waterways, made the master plan for airport development in 2021 - 2030 and to 2050, ensured the strategic vision based on local conditions, invested in the first phase construction of an expressway connecting Ha Giang with Tuyen Quang - Phu Tho Expressway or connecting Ha Giang with Noi Bai - Lao Cai Expressway. Ha Giang province restored and repaired existing national highways, invested in opening a 20-km section of National Highway 4 (across Tay Con Linh Pass) and a bypass in Dong Van Town and completed upgrading National Road 279 (Viet Vinh - Nghia Do). The province restored and upgraded at least 150 km out of 341 km of important provincial roads and sections and at least 300 km out of 1,813 km of arterial district roads, traffic routes to border gates and inter-regional roads. Ha Giang built three large bridges across the Lo and Gam rivers to connect border gate economic zones and expanded urban areas. The province continued to rationally develop the urban transport infrastructure system as planned, and improve the quality of modern and convenient urban traffic.
Mr Le Minh Duc, Director of Ha Giang Department of Transport, said, “Newly selected transport infrastructure phase-out projects will promptly respond to the province's development plan to meet new development requirements, create new breakthroughs and new faces for local transport infrastructure toward modernity, convenience, efficiency and safety to ensure faster connectivity with the region and the world. Ha Giang will have more advantages in investment attraction.”
