From a low starting point with numerous difficulties, Binh Duong Water - Environment Joint Stock Company (BIWASE) has risen to become one of the leading water and environment firms in the nation and contributed positively to socioeconomic development of Binh Duong province.
Impressions from practical and effective projects
With the development of Binh Duong province, BIWASE has left many impressions and made positive contributions with its practical and effective investment projects. Typical projects include Thu Dau Mot municipal wastewater treatment plant with a daily capacity of 17,000 cubic meters; and domestic wastewater treatment plants in Thuan An, Di An and Tan Uyen urban areas. These are modern domestic wastewater collection facilities, separated from rainwater collection systems. Households discharge wastewater directly into collection systems without using septic tanks. The quality of treated wastewater meets Grade A standard, processed by advanced treatment and operation technologies.
Always standing side by side with the province in socioeconomic development and investment attraction, BIWASE has capitalized on its internal resources to invest in a water supply system that covers a wide area, from developed industrial and urban areas such as Thu Dau Mot, Thuan An, Di An, Tan Uyen and Ben Cat to more distant districts such as Bau Bang, Phu Giao and Dau Tieng, as well as industrial parks like VSIP, Viet Huong, Song Than, Dong An, My Phuoc, Bau Bang, Tan Uyen, Dat Cuoc and An Tay. The total capacity of the company's water supply reaches 710,000 cubic meters a day, serving more than 27,000 customer households.
In addition to supplying tap water, BIWASE has also expanded its collection and treatment of municipal solid waste and wastewater by raising treatment capacity of plants and solving environmental pollution problems. This work may offer various benefits, ranging from waste-to-electricity to waste-to-fertilizer. The company invested US$30.5 million in Nam Binh Duong Waste Treatment Project to recycle and treat waste. Its key facilities included a municipal waste recycling plant that makes 840 tons of compost fertilizers a day, a hazardous industrial incinerator that is capable of processing 320 tons a day, a medical waste incinerator with a daily capacity of 3 tons, a leachate treatment system with a daily capacity of 1,000 cubic meters a day and an industrial wastewater treatment facility of 50 cubic meters a day, and a 4,000-KVA power generator.

Overcoming raging COVID-19 epidemic
Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, Chairman of the Board of Directors of BIWASE, said that the COVID-19 pandemic has exerted a heavy impact on the economy, and as an investor and service provider, BIWASE cannot avoid its adverse impacts. Fortunately, given Binh Duong's ongoing economic recovery, with the effort of all employees, the company's business operations thrived in the first nine months of 2022.
Specifically, BIWASE's operating revenue totaled VND2,828 billion in the first nine months of 2022, up 115% year on year and 73% higher than the target of VND3,850 billion. The profit after tax was VND523 billion in the nine-month period, representing a year on year growth of 106% and 70% higher than the target of VND750 billion set by its shareholder meeting, exclusive of unearned revenue of waste treatment business pending contract, worth VND93.1 billion, expected to be credited into the 2022 revenue.
Given this growth rate, BIWASE is expected to achieve and exceed its targets in 2022 and pay cash dividend of 13% to its shareholders as adopted by the Annual General Meeting of Shareholders 2022.
In addition, with an optimistic market outlook, industrial parks and companies resumed and expanded manufacturing operations at the back of COVID-19 epidemic. The province's FDI fund ranked second nationwide in the first ten months of 2022, boosted by gigantic projects invested by Lego Group (Denmark), Pandora Group (Denmark), Astral City Binh Duong, and Artisan Park invested by Gamuda Land. These are promising factors for BIWASE to develop water supply. With growth strength from its internal resources and growth prospects of its cooperation partners at Gia Tan Water Supply Joint Stock Company (Dong Nai), Can Tho Water Supply and Sewerage Joint Stock Company and Can Tho 2 Water Supply and Sewerage Joint Stock Company, BIWASE will certainly supply enough water for local people; help develop local water supply and urban infrastructure, a solid foundation for socioeconomic development and a generator of high added value to BIWASE in the coming time.
In another positive development, Gia Tan Water Supply Joint Stock Company (Giwaco) - a member of BIWASE - invested a lot of capital and technology to build 123.5km of supply pipelines, expand its water plant capacity to 40,000 cubic meters a day, together with pressure booster pumping stations, to ensure water supply to remote communes, industrial parks and future urban areas of Vinh Cuu, Dinh Quan, Cam My and Long Khanh. With a total investment fund of VND785.3 billion, the project, completed and put into use in October 2022, is supplying adequate water for industrial development and urban development in Dong Nai province.
"Although development pace may differ from time to time, Binh Duong still retains its intrinsic dynamism and is an ideal destination for investors. The provincial government always creates the best conditions for investors, and public employees are always hardworking and responsible. Besides, Binh Duong has a convenient geographic location and traffic system. Therefore, the province is always a top investment destination. Facilitated by Binh Duong's favorable business and investment environment, BIWASE, which used to be one of weakest businesses in the region, has grown strongly with an increasingly effective operational performance. The company has expanded into more fields to create more value for society.” Mr. Nguyen Van Thien - Chairman of the Board of Directors, BIWASE |
