Awakening Hung Yen's Tourism Potential

As a province with great tourism potential, Hung Yen is promoting the development of key tourism products and driving Hung Yen to be a safe and friendly destination for domestic and foreign tourists.

Building key tourism products

Hung Yen, which is renowned for the old saying “Thu nhat Kinh Ky, thu nhi Pho Hien” (the most important is the capital city, the second is  Hien town (Hung Yen), is a locality with significant potential and advantages for tourism development. Currently, the whole province has more than 1,800 historical and cultural relics, including 3 special national-level relics, 172 national-level relics, 250 provincial-level relics and 5 national treasures; along with famous traditional craft villages and more than 400 traditional festivals bearing the typical culture of the Northern Delta. Hung Yen is also home to many attractive specialties such as: longan, vermicelli, Dong Tao chicken, banh rang bua (rice cake) and longan lotus seed tea. These are all valuable resources for tourism development.

Based on the potential and advantages of tourism resources, the province has focused on promoting the exploitation of tourism products in a specific direction. It is cultural and spiritual tourism associated with tours of the Red River and the road routes; traditional folk festival tourism; ecotourism, agriculture, community and craft village tourism.

Mr. Dao Manh Huan, Deputy Executive Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hung Yen province, said that the number of visitors to Hung Yen has increased steadily over the years with an average growth rate of 10-15%. In 2019, the total number of arrivals to Hung Yen was estimated at about 01 million (an increase of over 11% compared to the same period in 2018). Total revenue from tourism is estimated at over VND 220 billion. In 2020 and 2021, despite being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, Hung Yen's tourism industry still developed and achieved certain results, thereby affirming the position and important role for the development of regional tourism, national tourism in general and with the socio-economic development of the locality in particular.

Attractive and safe destination

The master plan on tourism development of Hung Yen up to 2025, with a vision to 2030, has determined to maximize the potential and advantages of the province; efficiently exploit and use all resources; focus on construction investment, creating a breakthrough in infrastructure, developing material and technical facilities for tourism to maintain a high growth rate, integrating with the general development trend of the whole region and country.

In the new normal state, tourism activities began to be opened and resumed; Hung Yen tourism industry has determined that safe tourism becomes the first criterion. This not only brings peace of mind and satisfaction to visitors, but also aims to build a safe and friendly Hung Yen destination.

In the coming time, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Hung Yen province will continue to promote registration and self-assessment of COVID-19 safety for travel businesses and accommodation establishments; carry out promotion for a safe and friendly Hung Yen that is ready to welcome international guests.

In addition, the province will focus on boosting demand stimulus to restore the domestic tourism market to launch tourism activities and remove difficulties for tourism service businesses, contributing to the realization of "dual goals" of controlling the epidemic while developing socio-economically, helping the province's tourism industry to gradually recover and develop.

With the message "Hung Yen is a safe, friendly and hospitable destination", the industry promotes communication, promotion, and mobilization of tourism businesses to create tourism services.

The industry will also promote links with localities having large and frequent visitor sources, such as: Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong and Quang Ninh, to make the most of the market size and infrastructure conditions and typical and different tourism products of each region to attract tourists.
