Phu My 3 SIP, ZOCV Joins Hands to Prevent Pollution in Ba Ria Vung Tau

Phu My 3 Specialized Industrial Park (Phu My 3 SIP) and Zinc Oxide Corporation Vietnam (ZOCV) has recently held the groundbreaking ceremony of a steel furnace dust recycle plant. This is a cooperation project between Korea Zinc and ZincOx (UK).

The plant is equipped with environmentally friendly production technology with a capacity of recycling 100, 000 tonnes of EAFD/year, 35,000 tonnes HZO 65 per cent, 25, 000 tonnes IZO 80 per cent y-o-y. The plant has a total investment capital of US$ 120 million. In 2017, ZOCV has invested US$ 15.5 million and continues to invest additional US$110 million from now till end of 2018. The plant is expected to be completed by Juny 2019.

With a strongly developed industry, especially basic material manufacturing sectors, Ba Ria – Vung Tau is where many large-scale steel factories locate, especially in Phu My with a steel capacity accounting for 70 per cent of that nationwide. However, these factories have discharge a huge amount of steel furnace dust, approximately 45, 000 tonnes. Mr Le Tuan Quan – Deputy Chairman of People’s Committee of Ba Ria Vung Tau province said local authorities are now worrying about increasing amount of steel furnace dust generated in the province, especially in Phu My, there is no sustainable solutions for this problem. In this context, once completing, the plant will help Ba Ria-Vung Tau to this problem existed for many years.

On behalf of ZOCV, General Director Lee Sung Chae commits that the plant will apply the world’s advanced technology and will treat all the electric arc furnace dust generated in Ba Ria Vung Tau. The plant is expected to provide the most optimal and sustainable solution to environmental protection – the most urgent issue of the province. “ZOCV commits to bring a safe, environemntally friendly process to treat all electric arc furnace dust in Ba Ria Vung Tau under a principle of “no emission, not hazardous waste, clean waste and water”. We will try out best to bring more added values to the local community through environmental protection. This is how we create more development opportunities in Ba Ria-Vung Tau and join hands to contribute to the economic growth and ensure social security”, added Mr. Lee Sung Chae.

According to Mrs. Nguyen Thi Thao Nhi – Chairwoman and CEO of Phu My 3 SIP, through considering environmental protection as a core value, Phu My 3 SIP is a pioneering project in Ba Ria-Vung Tau to put into operation Category A concentrated waste water treatment plant in May 2017. “We are proud of being chosen by ZOCV which can bring a long-term solution to steel furnace dust treament and help protect environment in the province. We will accompany and support ZOCV in the process of building the plant, ensuring safety and project’s schedule”, affirmed Mrs Nhi.

Starting construction since August 2015 covering 999 hectares, Phu My 3 SIP has completed its infrastructure system (Phase 1A, 190ha) and under implementation of Phase 1B (160ha). Phu My 3 SIP is one of key projects of Ba Ria-Vung Tau province under Province-based Economic Growth Initiative of JICA and approved by Governments of Vietnam and Japan to turn into a typical industrial park.

With strategic location, international standard infrastructure, professional consulting team and mutual support from both governments, Phy My 3 SIP has become an ideal destination for investors. Apart from steel furnace dust recycle plant, Phu My 3 SIP has been chosed by many big international corporations like Nitori Ba Ria-Vung Tau of Nitori Holdings Japan, etc. In the near future, Phu MY 3 SIP is expected to draw a big wave of FDI projects into Ba Ria-Vung Tau and create a “driving” for socio-economic development in Ba Ria Vung tau and Southern key economic zone.
