Quang Ninh is the first province in Vietnam to have supports for building tourism satellite accounts to gauge direct tourism impacts on the local economy. This activity was carried out with the technical support from the Environmentally and Socially Responsible Tourism Capacity Development Programme (EU-ESRT Project) funded by the European Union (EU).
From tourism data provided by the province, data from additional surveys and IO Board of Quang Ninh province, specialists completed building Regional Tourism Satellite Accounts (RTSA) for Quang Ninh and estimated tourism contributions to the local economy in 2015.
This is the first provincial satellite account developed and applied in Vietnam. Using provincial tourism satellite accounts to measure direct tourism impacts on the local economy enables two-side (supply and demand) assessments and portrays an overall local tourism picture.
This is the most advanced method to determine tourism contributions to the GDP in current conditions. And, with the determination to improve tourism statistics in coming years, this method will provide practical results of tourism development in Vietnam in general and in every locality in particular.
In August 2016 the EU-ESRT Project will organise training courses to diffuse common methods for determining tourism contributions to GDP.
