Recently, the Ho Chi Minh City - Gia Lai Investment Promotion Conference was successfully wrapped up with 10 projects with a registered value of VND4,952 billion granted investment permits and 11 memorandums of cooperation with a total registered value of VND16,100 billion signed.

Reported at the meeting, Mr Vo Ngoc Thanh, Deputy Secretary of the Gia Lai Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee, said that the socio-economic development cooperation programme between Gia Lai province and Ho Chi Minh City was signed on March 3, 2003. Up to now, after 15 years of enforcement, the programme has attained important achievements in various fields, contributing to promoting economic growth, economic restructuring, poverty reduction and gradual improvement of people's life quality.

Particularly in investment field, with the determination and effort of the two localities' leaders, Gia Lai province-based companies have to date invested in 22 projects with a total investment capital VND29,544 billion in Ho Chi Minh City. Notable names include Hoang Anh Gia Lai, Duc Long Gia Lai and Quoc Cuong Gia Lai. Meanwhile, 26 investors from Ho Chi Minh City have chosen Gia Lai as their investment destinations for their 27 projects with VND3,635 billion engaged in agriculture, forestry, hydropower, residential and commercial property among others. To date, Ho Chi Minh City's projects in Gia Lai province has brought not only economic gains to investors but also contributed to promoting economic restructuring, generating jobs for locals, and increasing provincial budget revenue.

In the past 15 years, the cooperation ties between Ho Chi Minh City and Gia Lai in agriculture, industry, commerce, tourism, health, education and training, science and technology, and information and communication have produced very encouraging results; and created the foundation for boosting the bilateral cooperation in the coming time.

Promoting the success in 2003 - 2016, Ho Chi Minh City and Gia Lai province launched the Socio-economic Cooperation Programme in 2017 - 2020 signed by leaders of two localities on April 18, 2017 in Ho Chi Minh City. Chairman Vo Ngoc Thanh expressed his hope that, through this programme, potential advantages of Ho Chi Minh City and Gia Lai will continue to be exploited in the right direction and bring in high economic value to investors as well as contribute to boosting economic growth and ensuring social security in two localities. "As a mountainous province with a lot of hardships, Gia Lai is looking forward to further receiving support and assistance from Ho Chi Minh City - the economic, scientific and technological centre of the country. We always open the door wide to welcome investors and businesses from the city to invest in areas where Gia Lai has advantages such as organic agriculture, high technology agriculture, processing industry and tourism, hence helping foster the province's development," he emphasised.

In response to the appeal from Chairman Thanh, Mr Le Thanh Liem, Standing Vice Chairman of Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, said that the city signed investment cooperation with 38 provinces and cities nationwide. Gia Lai is among the first to have cooperation with the city. Not only Gia Lai but Ho Chi Minh City always welcomes and facilitates investors from all provinces and cities to invest in the city under the motto "Success of enterprises from other provinces is the city’s own success."

He added that, on the basis of cooperation achievements in the past 15 years, investment promotion between Ho Chi Minh City and Gia Lai will continue to be chosen as the focus in the 2017 - 2020 programme. The concerns of the two governments and investment cooperation of the city's enterprises in Gia Lai are not only limited to economic benefits but, above all, the responsibility of Ho Chi Minh City - an economic engine of the country - to disadvantaged localities. In the coming time, Ho Chi Minh City pledges to further accelerate administrative reform, strongly improve business and investment environment to, by this way, provide more favourable conditions for enterprises from Gia Lai in particular and all investors in general to make effective long-term business in the city.
