With the support of central authorities and the direction of the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People’s Council and the Provincial People's Committee, the transport sector of Thua Thien Hue province has launched and coordinated to carry out many important projects in the past years, thus helping complete the transport system and create continuous connectivity among localities, increase investment magnetism and establish a new position and force for local development.
In early 2022, after a quick preparation, Thua Thien Hue province started construction of a coastal road across Thua Thien Hue province and a bridge over Thuan An Estuary. This key project has great significance to the socioeconomic development strategy and enhanced national security and defense in the province. The project includes three road sections and one bridge across Thuan An Estuary with a total length of 21.8km and a total investment fund of VND3,496 billion. Currently, the first phase, costing VND2,400 billion, is being implemented, including a 7.785-km road from the intersection of Tam Giang Bridge to the bridge across Thuan An Estuary and to the intersection of National Highway 49A - National Highway 49B in Thuan An Ward. The bridge is 2.36km long.
In addition, Cam Lo - La Son Expressway, part of Eastern North - South Expressway, has a length of 98.3km (37.3km in Quang Tri province and 61km in Thua Thien Hue province). According to Decision 1828/QD-UBND dated August 16, 2018 of the Provincial People's Committee that assigned the Department of Transport to invest in site clearance for Cam Lo - La Son section on Ho Chi Minh Road. With a large and complicated work volume and very urgent progress, the department actively coordinated with the Project Management Unit and impacted localities to perform land compensation, site clearance and handover as planned. Up to now, the project has completed 90% of construction volume and is expected to open for technical traffic in October.
In addition, Nguyen Hoang Road with a bridge spanning Perfume River, another key traffic project that is being drastically implemented by the province, will play an important role in solving traffic congestion in Hue City in the next five years. This is also a premise project for complete construction of Ring Road 3 according to the approved plan. This will help expand development and connection to neighboring towns of Hue City as the approved project for Hue City expansion. The Department of Transport announced appraisal results of the project investment feasibility study report; coordinated with relevant agencies and localities to execute the approved plan and prepare procedures for the project to be started soon.
Mr. Le Toan Thang, Deputy Director of the Department of Transport, said: “The resolution of the Provincial Party Congress defines infrastructure investment as one of four groups of solutions to create strategic breakthroughs. Particularly, the focus is building a synchronous and complete internal and external transport system to ensure continuous connectivity among localities, open up opportunities to attract more investors and create new momentum and force for development.”
New and completed traffic investment projects have met travel demand and merchandise exchange of the province with neighboring localities and countries in the East-West Economic Corridor. Typical projects include a four-lane section on the National Highway 1A passing the province; Phuoc Tuong, Phu Gia and Hai Van tunnels; western branch of Ho Chi Minh Road; upgraded asphalted carpet on National Highway 49B from Hue City to A Luoi; coastal and lagoon roads such as National Highway 49B from My Chanh - Quang Tri to Phu Loc (95km), Hoa Xuan, Tam Giang, Thuan An, Truong Ha and Tu Hien bridges; Wharf No. 2, wharf No. 3 at Chan May Port; Terminal T2 with a capacity of 5 million passengers a year (including 4 million domestic passengers and 1 million international passengers), expected to be completed in 2022.
