Lao Cai province will hold 33 festivals from 2024 to 2026 to preserve and promote the traditional cultural identity of ethnic groups in the province. According to the plan issued by the Provincial People's Committee, there will be four provincial festivals and 29 district-level festivals.
Provincial festivals include Thuong Temple Festival, Bao Ha Temple Festival, Bac Ha White Plateau Festival - Summer with "Highland Horse Hoof" and Sa Pa Summer Festival - "Sa Pa, the land of love". Thuong Temple Festival takes place in the first lunar month in Lao Cai ward to pay homage to Lord Hung Dao Dai Vuong Tran Quoc Tuan. Bao Ha Temple Festival will be held in the seventh lunar month in Bao Ha commune, Bao Yen district to commemorate the well-known General Hoang Bay.
Bac Ha White Plateau Festival - Summer with "Highland Horse Hoof" will take place in the second quarter of each year in Bac Ha town, highlighted by the "Highland Horse Hoof" horse race. Sa Pa Summer Festival - "Sa Pa, the land of love" will be open from the April 30 - May 1 holiday to the end of summer to promote the image of Sa Pa tourism featured by mild, cool climate.
Districts also organize many festivals in a bid to preserve local culture, notably Bao Yen district with six festivals from the first to 10th lunar months every year. Muong Khuong district has only one festival.
Organizing festivals not only aims to preserve and promote traditional cultural values, but also build unique tourism products, popularize the culture, people and strengths of Lao Cai to domestic and foreign tourists.
