Go Cong Town is fervently striving to achieve the status of a city by 2025. Aligning its developmental strategies with the vision set forth by Tien Giang province and Go Cong Town, the focus, particularly on infrastructure investment, has endowed Go Cong Town with a sophisticated, modern urban demeanor.

Go Cong Center

Endowed with an advantageous geographical location and an intricate waterway transportation system, Go Cong Town has progressively solidified its position as the eastern central urban hub of Tien Giang province. Recent years have borne witness to numerous achievements, most notably the Prime Minister's commendation for achieving new rural development standards in 2020 and acknowledgment by the Tien Giang Provincial People’s Committee for meeting "urban civilization" standards in the 2016-2020 period.

To do so, Go Cong Town has focused on mobilizing all investment resources for infrastructure development and motivated stable production development according to the following structural order of trade - services, industry and agriculture. Many completed projects have produced positive effects on local socioeconomic development such as roads and residential areas on both sides of extended Truong Dinh Street, Orchids Kindergarten and Salicette Canal embankments.

Trade and service have been constantly developed and expanded thanks to the upgrade, investment and construction of Go Cong Market (certified the Cultural Market title in 2012) as well as rural markets. Commercial neighborhoods have been built along both sides of Hai Ba Trung, Truong Dinh, Ly Tu Trong, Nguyen Hue and extended Truong Dinh streets.

In the industrial sector, Go Cong Town has focused on inviting and attracting investors to invest in various fields. Typical investors include Cong Tien Garment, Viet Long Hung, Shilla Glovis, Long Way and Phuc Hai Unburnt Bricks.

The agricultural sector is focused on comprehensive development, associated with new rural development progress. The town has formed a 350-ha high-quality rice area Binh Dong, Binh Xuan and Tan Trung communes.

The social and cultural field continues to develop and make much progress. Policies on education and training, social security, poverty reduction, healthcare and protection are consistently implemented and produced positive results.

The clearest change of Go Cong Town is urban infrastructure development. Among notable projects are My Loi Bridge, extended Truong Dinh Street and new urban areas. Since its re-establishment over three decades ago, the town has constantly developed, from the road system to the environmental landscape, lighting system, and water supply and drainage system. As a result, the urban face becomes increasingly cleaner, more beautiful and more civilized.

Go Cong Town has a particularly important position as it is the eastern central urban area of the province, the second gateway to the economic hub of Ho Chi Minh City and to the greater southern key economic region. At the same time, it plays an important role in the socioeconomic development of Tien Giang province. Therefore, the above achievements are even more meaningful, creating a solid foundation for the town to extend its development and affirming its position in the coming time.

On April 27, 2022, the Standing Board of the Tien Giang Provincial Party Committee issued Resolution 12 on building and developing Go Cong Town into a city before 2025.

The town is determined to become a city, an economic, cultural, social, science - technology, service and tourism center of the eastern region of the province. At the same time, the town will demonstrate its role as a driving force in promoting the province's overall growth; achieve rapid and sustainable economic growth; have a synchronous modern urban infrastructure system and a green - clean - beautiful urban environment; and link economic development with culture, society and environmental protection, thus improving the material and spiritual life of the people.
