The transportation infrastructure in Khanh Hoa province has developed quite strongly in recent years. Dozens of key projects have been implemented. Many main roads across the province, especially in Nha Trang City, have been expanded, upgraded and constructed to become a driving force for local socioeconomic development.
Efforts to meet socioeconomic development requirements
Speaking at the 18th Khanh Hoa Provincial Party Congress (2020-2025 term), National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan once emphasized that Khanh Hoa must play the role of development engine of the Southern Central Region and the Central Highlands. Khanh Hoa province's transport sector has thus made unremitting efforts to mobilize investment resources to construct, complete and operate key works, and effectively realized the mission of “going ahead and opening the way”.
Mr. Nguyen Van Dan, Director of the Department of Transport, emphasized: “Khanh Hoa province has many advantages as it has sea, delta and mountains and is located on important traffic routes of the country (roads, railways, seaways and airways), it therefore has all modes of transport for socioeconomic development. In recent years, the province has prioritized mechanisms and policies for transport infrastructure investment and development. Typical ongoing projects include North - South Expressway with 54 km running across Khanh Hoa province (Cam Lam - Vinh Hao and Nha Trang - Cam Lam sections are being cleared for construction) and 83-km Van Phong - Nha Trang route which is currently undergoing a pre-feasibility study report, expected for construction and completion in 2021-2025. Currently, the department is building temporary parking lots for vehicles and coordinating with relevant units to put those lots for auction.
Mobilizing huge resources
To play a key role and become one of determining factors for local economic competitiveness, the transport sector must fulfil many important tasks.
Khanh Hoa is also facing many challenges when resources needed for planned transport infrastructure development are huge but the availability of the province and the central government budget is limited, resulting in insufficient investment in traffic works. Many transport development projects have not yet been upgraded as planned. The department has however actively based on actual situations and key tasks to advise the Provincial Party Committee, the Provincial People's Committee and the Ministry of Transport to complete road, rail, inland waterway, sea and air transport infrastructure transport development projects. It revised the transport infrastructure planning integrated into the Khanh Hoa Plan for the 2021-2030 period, with a vision to 2050. The industry is planning to relocate Nha Trang Railway Station from the center of Nha Trang City to ensure long-term development; focusing resources on speeding up the completion of key traffic works such as central investment projects, airport intersections, Ring Road 2, Ring Road 3, Provincial Road 3, Provincial Road 2, Road D30 and Nha Trang Port to facilitate tourism development. With the above development approach, the sector is hoping to receive the support of the Provincial People's Committee for paperwork settlement, site clearance and funding assistance.
In addition, to ensure strict state management of transportation, one top priority of the Khanh Hoa Department of Transport is carrying out administrative reforms and paying attention to training, fostering, improving the professional, ethical and public service of public employees in charge of inspection and examination, and applying information technology in administration. The department always creates a healthy, equal and fair competition environment for businesses. Particularly, department leaders must always adhere to and grasp the Government's motto "Discipline, integrity, action, creativity, breakthrough and efficiency" to create dramatic progress in inspection and examination to become a sharp and effective tool for better state management,” said Dan.
